Rugby Business Club Australia (RBCA) is the federal
government’s key initiative to derive economic benefits alongside
Rugby World Cup 2003, and is the first such program of its kind to be
tied alongside this major sporting event, to be held in Australia from
10 October 2003.
Led by Austrade (the Australian Trade Commission),
RBCA is endorsed by the Australian Rugby Union and is supported by Invest
Australia, the Australian Tourist Commission and Australian Business Limited
as partners, and other government and industry bodies, as well as wider
business interests associated with the international Rugby community.
RBCA follows the success of Business Club Australia
– the federal government’s key business facilitation program
built around the Sydney 2000 Olympics – which generated A$1.2bn
in business outcomes.
As a membership-based program, the aim of RBCA is
to bring together like-minded Australian and international business people
under the spotlight of Rugby World Cup 2003 to deliver long-term business
connections and outcomes.
| Join the Rugby identities getting involved
A team of high-profile Australian Rugby identities who have competed
internationally and have strong ties to the corporate world are
supporting Rugby Business Club Australia as Business Ambassadors.
In essence, their role is to promote the benefits of international
business in all forms through sporting connections, and the Business
Ambassadors will be actively participating in RBCA networking events.
RBCA’s International Patron and Lead Business Ambassador
is international businessman and former Wallaby Coach (1997-2001)
Rod Macqueen, who says:
“Rugby Business Club Australia provides the perfect opportunity
for business people like myself to establish new business contacts
and maximise business opportunities while enjoying some great Rugby.”

Other Ambassadors include:
- Rugby commentator Gordon Bray, ‘voice of Australian Rugby’;
- Queensland Rugby Union’s President Paul McLean (a Wallaby
from 1974-1982) and CEO Jeff Miller, who played in Australia’s
1991 World Cup Team and coached in the 1999 World Cup;
- Queensland Reds Coach Andrew Slack, who led the Wallabies on
their 1984 Grand Slam tour of Europe;
o NSW Waratahs Coach Bob Dwyer, who coached the Wallabies to Australia’s
first-ever World Cup victory against England at Twickenham in
1991;
- ACT Brumbies Coach David Nucifora, member of the 1991 World
Cup Wallabies team;
- former Wallabies David Codey, Dan Crowley, Richard Harry, Jason
Little, Michael Lynagh, Simon Poidevin, Tony Shaw and David Wilson.
