Kailis Australian Pearls are treasures from the remote ocean off the coast of Broome, Western Australia. Our large, lustrous Australian South Sea Pearls are renowned for their quality and intrinsic beauty.
Crafted by nature and guided by human hand, these elegant creations are mesmerising, distinctive and discreet. Classic yet contemporary, Kailis Australian Pearls are heirlooms of the future.
The Kailis family has a long and distinguished maritime history. The late Michael Kailis, founder of the MG Kailis Group, and his wife Dr Patricia Kailis are regarded as pioneers of the pearling industry.
Broome Pearls Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of the MG Kailis Group, established the first underwater pearl farm on the seabed in Roebuck Bay and opened Broome’s first pearl jewellery showroom in 1975.
Today the family-owned pearling company remains dedicated to quality and produces some of the world’s most sensual and enduring gems.
Every Kailis pearl is grown from the rare Pinctada Maxima oyster. As its name maxima suggests, it is the largest of all species of the genus Pinctada or pearl oyster.
The size of the Pinctada Maxima provides an unrivalled advantage for pearl growth, but its rarity and temperament makes the task difficult. It takes two years and untold care and dedication to produce one cultured pearl.
A selection of the most exquisite cultured and keshi (seedless) pearls are chosen from our annual harvest for Kailis Australian Pearls. These cherished gems are turned into the perfectly matched strands and lovingly handcrafted jewellery available online and in our Australian Showrooms.
