Bungle Bungle Range, Purnululu National Park

Outback and beyond

Welcome to Western Australia’s North West and Outback, among the world’s last true wilderness areas.

Imagine flying over extraordinary rock formations and magnificent waterfalls, cruising through inland waterways, or heading out into red-earth country on an organised four-wheel drive adventure.

In the North West, the Kimberley region offers awesome landscapes to explore, while the coastal pearling town of Broome is famous for Cable Beach – all 22km of it.

A little further south is the Pilbara region, containing three world-class national parks with deep red gorges, secluded emerald rock pools and ice- blue waterfalls. It’s a perfect place to camp out under vast skies of southern stars.

Heading east inland from Perth you can visit the Goldfields region, where the tough gold-rush years have produced a strong, warm and colourful people. Kalgoorlie is the hub of Western Australia’s ‘wild west’, where you can ‘pan’ for gold, see the world’s biggest working open-cut mine, and enjoy a beer (or two) on the cool verandah of a classic Australian pub.
