Snowboarder on Perisher Blue’s half pipe

Skiing among the snowgums (Eucalyptus Pauciflora) of Australia's alpine region is a truly unique skiing experience. These beautiful, gnarled old trees have streaks of red, green, pink and orange running through their bark.
Australia has great skiing and boarding from July through to September – when it is summer in the northern hemisphere! Panoramic views and sunshine complement resorts packed with cosy bars and restaurants.
While Tasmania has a few skiing facilities, the biggest and most popular are in the large ‘alpine’ region straddling the border between New South Wales and Victoria. Lively and picturesque resorts include Perisher Blue, Thredbo, Charlotte Pass, Mt Buller, Mt Selwyn and Falls Creek. Mt Hotham bills itself as the “powder snow capital of Australia” and is Victoria’s highest skiing area. Perisher Blue is Australia’s biggest ski resort, with three terrain parks, a slopestyle course and Australia’s best ‘super half pipe’. At nearby Thredbo, you can try an artificial toboggan run or luge, hurtling down the mountain in a plastic sledge.
