“In the 21st century we urgently need to find effective ways of maximizing brain development in young people and then preserving brain function throughout adult life. The implications of this work for our major educational institutions and for the broader economic health and social welfare of our nation are clear.
Our response at the University of Sydney has been to establish a unique and world-class facility, the Brain and Mind Research Institute. Our new facility at 100 Mallet Street Camperdown brings together for the first time basic science and clinical researchers in mental health, neurology and neurosciences. It leaves behind the traditional divides and focuses on interdisciplinary efforts. It engages the community in the design and application of the science. Our capacity to understand brain functions in the future must be underpinned by community support and an active willingness to resolve the substantial ethical as well as medical implications of our work.” Professor Gavin Brown EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SCIENTIFIC DIRECTOR SCIENTIFIC DIRECTOR CONTACT INFORMATION |
