Australian Institute of Tropical Medicine
The Australian Institute of Tropical Medicine, founded in 1910, is Australia’s oldest medical institute. Based on the Townsville campus of James Cook University and adjacent to the Townsville Hospital, the AITM conducts research
on medical issues relevant to the region, particularly those with a focus on the tropics,
rural and remote health and indigenous health.

These issues are not unique to northern Australia and so the Institute is seeking opportunities
for collaborations with other Universities and Research Institutes. The Institute has a vigorous postgraduate training program which provides training opportunities for graduate students
who are interested in improving health outcomes in the tropics.

The AITM also provides opportunities for investment and the development of strategic partnerships in a range of areas including drug stability, tropical infectious diseases, biosecurity, skin cancer research and drug discovery and development utilising the local biodiversity.
The University has a wide range of infrastructure to support these research activities.
