TURN FOOD WASTE INTO GREEN ENERGY

Environmental Infrastructure Limited, a company focused on the fast-growing renewable energy sector, has invested in Earthpower Technologies who are building Australia's first regional "food waste to energy" plant near Parramatta (NSW), and is pursuing a number of wind power and other renewable energy development projects in Australia, Europe and the USA.

The Parramatta plant, scheduled for completion in November 2002, will recycle organic waste from the food manufacturing, food retailing and hospitality industries into approximately 3.5 megawatts of green energy. The proven process, commercialised by EarthPower and their Biomass team, combines anaerobic digestion technology with a number of pre and post-treatment processes to produce biogas which can be used as heat for the plant and/or cogenerated into electricity, and organic fertiliser.
