In a little over 10 years, the Australian-based ASP Ship Management Group has become one of the world’s leading ship management companies, providing services to cover virtually every requirement of ship owners and operators worldwide through its international network of offices and representatives.
ASP began in Melbourne in 1964 as a partnership between ANL Ltd and McIlwraith McEacharn, managing mostly Australian flag ships. In 1997, the company was taken over by the UK-based Pan Gulf Group and rapidly expanded, first in the Asia Pacific region, then into the United Kingdom, India and Scandinavia, and most recently Germany
ASP today provides technical and crew management for more than 150 vessels and employs approximately 3000 seafarers throughout the world.
The ASP Group provides autonomous ship management units in strategic locations worldwide, which enables clients to obtain a full range of prompt, technical, crew and commercial services backed by local knowledge.
Services delivered by ASP include technical management, crew management and training, marine engineering and project consultancy, bunkering services, and marine travel.
In its ship management operations, ASP combines the most modern management systems with highly-qualified staff for administrative, accounting and supply services, including the Star ship management system coupled with Axapta accounting system. These management tools enable clients to obtain instant up-to-date information on costs and vessel operating details. For planning and supervision of dockings, repair and other technical requirements, teams of marine engineers supply on-the-spot assessment and supervision.
ASP’s special projects team has built up a solid reputation in a wide variety of work including new construction, vessel conversions, engineering rebuilds, and quality assurance and safety management programs for clients.
The shipping industry’s vital need for qualified and experienced seagoing personnel is recognised by ASP through a program of recruitment, selection and supply of quality officers and ratings from Asia, Europe, and the Pacific region. These are operated by the associate company CMS Crew Management Services. (CMS). CMS has offices in Singapore, Philippines, India, China, and Germany.
The ASP Group places high importance on crew training standards, not only from its own training specialists, but also through access to major training institutions in many countries. It also operates a deck and engineering cadet program.
Specialised programs and expert staff covering shipboard safety are aimed at ensuring compliance with all international codes and standards. Training programs are standardised and continually monitored.
International Bunker Supplies Pty Ltd, another ASP company, has a special role in providing both onshore and offshore bunker services from the Australian port of Gladstone at highly-competitive rates.
Mariner Travel was formed in 2003 to specialise in travel for ship management staff, the transfer of crew throughout the world and for any other corporate client requirements.
The ASP Group also has interests in the oil and gas industry through Mogal Marine involved with conversion of offshore gas to methanol
