On behalf of Singapore Shipping Association (SSA), I am pleased to congratulate the Australian Shipowners Association for hosting the 14th Asian Shipowners Forum on the Gold Coast, Australia, on 9-11 May 2005.

The Asian Shipowners Forum (ASF) provides an important platform for Asian shipowners, who share a common desire and goal in international shipping, to meet and discuss issues that affect their shipping business operations. This is achieved largely through the hard work, dedication and contribution of the five Standing Committees which ensure that the objectives of the ASF are fully met. Our ability to formulate a united front with respect to the needs of the shipowners in the Asian region will go well to influence the perceptions and correct any misconceptions of some policy makers.

The SSA, as a member of the Federation of ASEAN Shipowners' Associations, is determined to play an active role to ensure that the ASF remains strong and relevant to the world shipping community.

I wish all members and participants a successful and fruitful Forum.
