Australia

Australia is enjoying its 12th year of uninterrupted growth and prosperity. Although agricultural exports are suffering from a prolonged drought, the country’s economic growth continues to lead the ‘Western’ world, as “the world’s most resilient economy” (World Competitiveness Yearbook 2002), shrugging off the tech wreck, a continuing recession in Japan (its biggest export market), and the recent world downturn. Australia’s major policy reforms over the last two decades combine with a rapid uptake of technology (witness the Australian Customs’ Service’s new procedures) to offer a strongly export-oriented location on the doorstep of the Asia Pacific.
