Best Solutions

By addressing the challenges of tomorrow’s maritime transport requirements, Barwil is creating solutions for today

Barwil serves a large number of international maritime customers through its global network of more than 200 offices, in 54 countries around the world. Through this network Barwil covers all of the world’s major ports.

By doing this it has grown to be what it today claims is one of the world’s leading providers of shipping agency and related services, with 25 years in the business. The office network is growing constantly – more than 40% in the past five years – and at the same time growing the volume of port calls handled by 140%. Expansion is being pursued through new joint ventures, acquisitions, cooperation agreements and management arrangements plus, of course, through strong growth in existing businesses. Development areas include terminal operations, inland logistics, and offshore services. The company offers a broad range of services that range from simple ship agency tasks to more complex outsourcing activities.

Port and marine services
Barwil’s key activity and global core product is port and marine services. This term spans a broad range of ser-vices traditionally provided by shipping agents, often integrated and combined with more recent service creations. Its hallmark is the combination of high service quality with global uniformity and local knowledge, allowing Barwil to offer a broad range of services that vary from simple shipagency tasks to complex outsourcing activities.

Value chains
Barwil has moved towards market orientation by identifying customers’ value chains and integrating its ser-vices with its customers in order to find the best solutions together. Just one example of this is Barwil’s port agency management solutions – an outsourcing service which bundles functions traditionally carried out by the client with the port agency services performed by Barwil.

Asia-Pacific connections
With a particularly strong network in the Asia Pacific, Barwil has operations in India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan. The offices in Asia are strongly involved in all the major commodity and cargo segments in the area, be it dry bulk, liquids or general cargo. It will continue to strengthen its presence in the Asia Pacific by providing premium quality port and marine services to the world shipping community, wherever these services are required.

Liner agents
Barwil also has a considerable presence as liner agent in key markets in the Middle East and Asia, as well as in parts of Europe. Strong sales and marketing teams with comprehensive market knowledge provide complete market coverage. Sales, documentation and support services are integrated through IT systems. The strength of Barwil’s port operational capabilities ensures optimal efficiency in turnaround time, thus contributing to reduced costs.

Service portfolio
Freight forwarding services are available as a part of the service portfolio in most Barwil offices. These are a particularly significant activity across Barwil offices in the Middle East and many parts of Asia. Total supply chain logistics solutions for large manufacturers and distributors are also within the capability of Barwil. Barwil is active as stevedore and warehouse operator in a number of ports worldwide, particularly in the general cargo and bulk segments. Its marine services capabilities are uniquely versatile and unrivalled. This portfolio includes, among others:

Petroleum Logistic International, offering ship-to-ship transfer services of liquid cargoes using a full range of owned equipment and oil major approved mooring masters; and

Aagaard Euro-Oil, the leading Norwegian bunker broker, delivering more than 3m tonnes per year.

Abeer Marine Services
Barwil subsidiary, Abeer Marine Services operates 34 offshore utility boats in Middle East and South-East Asia, as well as other specialised and offshore vessels in other parts of the world.

Norwegian roots
