Dräger Safety

Speed and quality are essential when servicing safety equipment

There are numerous local and international safety regulations governing the marine and offshore industry. These include guidelines for the protection of crew members on ships carrying cargoes in which the emission or leakage of toxic gases, vapours or explosive gases could cause a fire/explosion hazard and present a health risk to crew.

In order to comply with such legislation it is essential for vessels to carry a range of monitoring and protective equipment including:

  • portable gas detection equipment;
  • fire and gas detection systems;
  • full face masks with gas/particle filters;
  • SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus);
  • chemical protection suits; and
  • EEBD (emergency escape breathing devices).

Safety equipment for personnel protection can vary according to the type of operation of the vessels and the intended application. And due to its critical nature, it is essential that life protecting equipment is regularly inspected and serviced in accordance with the relevant guidelines. Furthermore, it is important that such work is carried out by an authorised service centre that is manufacturer certified and demonstrates the necessary skills and equipment to complete a repair job and return the equipment to the vessel in perfect condition.

Beating the clock
Given the limited time available when a ship makes a port call, one of the major difficulties a ship operator faces is having such work undertaken within the time limitations, as well as ensuring it is ‘certified’.

As a specialist in gas measurement and protection, Dräger Safety offers a full range of internationally approved monitoring and protective products to assist shipowners in meeting these requirements.
At Dräger Safety Asia, dedicated Dräger Service Departments understand these concerns. With a large installed base, DSA is able to stock a very comprehensive range of spares and accessories in its warehouse. A team of well trained service technicians and engineers are also prepared to work for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to service, calibrate and repair all Dräger equipment and bring it to prime condition again. Refilling and hydrostatic testing of SCBA cylinders is also available.
