Superior Studies
China’s Wuhan University of Technology provides
skilled and motivated seafarers for the domestic and international markets
Wuhan University of Technology (WUT) was established as
a consolidated institution directly under the Ministry of Education in
May 2000 by the authority of the State Council in China. A comprehensive
university, it covers eight major disciplines: engineering, law, science,
humanities and social sciences, management, economics, philosophy and
education.
WUT is included in the name list of the National 211 project,
and is thus the only key higher educational maritime education and training
(MET) institution financially supported by China’s central government.
The MET has a history of more than 50 years involving the
WUT’s College of Navigation, the Energy and Power Engineering College,
the Further Education School, the Seafarers’ Training Centre (STC)
and the Wuhan University of Technology Skaugen Training Centre (WUT-STC).
Navigation College
Cultivating more than 5000 superior ship officers and staff in maritime
administration, the college consists of the Navigation Technology Department
and Maritime Management Department, as well as the STC and an experiment
centre equipped with advanced navigation equipment.
Undergraduate specialties include Navigation Technology
and Maritime Management, while the STC provides almost all training items
complying with the provisions of STCW 95.
Energy & Power Engineering College
The college consists of shipping and oceanic engineering with a doctor
spot and post-doctor flowing station, while marine engineering and vehicle
operational engineering each have a doctor programme and a postgraduate
programme. The college also offers undergraduate courses on thermal energy
and power engineering, marine engineering, and petroleum/gas storage and
transportation engineering.
WUT-STC
WUT-STC is engaged in the training of seafarers for the domestic and international
markets in the handling and transportation of dangerous cargoes, courses
complying with the provisions of STCW 78/95, and meeting the requirements
of IMO Model courses.
Quality control system of MET
The quality control system was audited and approved by the Maritime Safety
Administration of P.R. China in August 1998. WUT became one of the first
maritime colleges that passed OCS in China and reported to IMO. WUT-STC
was certified by DNV for ISO 9001:2000 in March 2002.
