The Azmi & Associates (A&A) Shipping and Maritime Practice Group, headed by Fuzet Farid, has a vibrant and dynamic team, developing rapidly in depth of work and personnel. The Asia Pacific LEGAL 500: The Guide To Asia’s Commercial Law Firms recognises A&A’s specialisation and names Ms Farid as a leading Malaysian shipping lawyer.

A&A’s legal maritime services act on behalf of charterers, shipowners, cargo owners and insurers on issues of demurrage and despatch, arbitration clauses, damage and collision claims, injunctions related to freight, freight forwarding contracts, relationships between shipagents and warehouse owners, shipbuilding contracts and short delivery of cargo. The Group also handles arbitration in international trade contracts, documentary fraud, marine insurance claims, oil pollution of the sea, general average, institute time clauses and on policy liability for cracks in boilers.

Wealth of experience
Ms Farid, a member of the Shipping and Admiralty Committee of the Malaysian Bar Council, has delivered papers on Malaysian maritime law at the International Bar Association Conference, Fourth International Conference on Maritime Law 2000 of the China Maritime Law Association, and at the Maritime Institute of Malaysia. She collaborated to produce the book Ship Finance: Singapore and Malaysia, published by Butterworths Asia 2001. Jointly annotating the Carriage of Goods by Sea Act for Butterworths Asia, Ms Farid has written articles on enforcement of fisheries legislation and on oil pollution under Malaysian statutes. With Pearl Ann Jeyaraj, she has also written on transfer of title in ship finance and on Malaysian mari-time courts.

Mohd Rasheed Khan, former General Counsel of Shell Malaysia Berhad, lends his knowledge and experience on charter parties and marine insurance issues for oil cargo. Pearl Ann Jeyaraj is experienced in arresting vessels in various ports in Malaysia as well as Mareva injunctions related to shipping issues. Jason Wee and Frida Krishnan are also involved in commercial shipping litigation. Jason Wee has assisted in the resistance of a ship arrest and won awards including from Lincoln's Inn for being top student for his year in the BPP bar vocational course.

Trained both academically and in practise, A&A is able to assist in solving shipping problems professionally and with a full-pledged commitment.
