It is also the official publication of the Australia India Business Council’s 25-year Anniversary.

The Madan Lal/Ashok Malhotra Cup is a tournament consisting of selected teams from the Madan Lal Cricket Academy (Delhi), the Ashok Malhotra Cricket Academy (Calcutta), the Bruce Adams Cricket Academy (Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh), and the ACT Under 15’s Representative team from Australia.

Coordinated by former Indian first-grade player Kuunal Lall and Bruce Adams, the tournament was played in round-robin over 8 days at three venues; Hamdard University, Siri Fort, and Mohan Nagar.

All four competing teams attended the High Commission event, and were overwhelmed to meet their sporting idols Kapil Dev, Madan Lal and Ashok Malhotra. Many of the boys and their families had the opportunity to meet and have their photo taken with the cricketing greats.

For many of the young cricketers and their parents, this was their first trip to Delhi. Some of the parents of the players from the ACT Representative Cricket team described the trip as an unparalleled experience, and attending the event at the High Commission an opportunity few, if any, of them would have had without the tournament.

The Hon. Shri Kamal Nath addressed the audience briefly, expressing his pride in the achievements of the Bruce Adams Cricket Academy in Chhindwara. As Chief Patron, Nath has played a key role in the academy’s success. >>

Australia – India: A Growing Partnership is the official publication of the Australia India Business Council, and also commemorates the AIBC’s 25-year Anniversary.

The event, held at the National Press Club of Australia, was attended by over 200 guests who enjoyed speeches from The Hon. Dr Craig Emerson, Minister for Trade; Mr VK Sharma, Deputy High Commissioner of India to Australia; Ravi Bhatia of the Australia India Business Council; and a special performance from Australia’s iconic singer, Kamahl.

Also featured on the program was the Under 15’s ACT Representative Cricket Team, who would in the following weeks travel to India for a major cricket tournament in New Delhi, The Madan Lal/Ashok Malhotra Cup.

The cricket tournament, facilitated and organised by Stroudgate’s CEO Bruce Adams and Kuunal Lall, Director of Coaching at the prestigious Madan Lal Cricket Academy, New Delhi, was contested by four cricket teams: Under 15’s ACT Representative Cricket Team, the Madan Lal Cricket Academy, Delhi; the Ashok Malhotra Cricket Academy, Calcutta; and the Bruce Adams Cricket Academy, Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, India.

Given the profound, mutual love of cricket shared by Australia and India, the presence of the ACT Representative Cricket Team and their parents was a fitting tribute to the close and lasting friendship between the two countries. >>

Dr Emerson’s address in particular was greatly enjoyed by all, as the Minister did away with his prepared speech on the economy and trade, and instead spoke fondly of his own time and personal experiences in India, his love of sport and travel, and the importance of such experiences as this for the ACT Representative Cricket Team.

However, a significant highlight of the evening was the performance given by Kamahl. Kamahl sang the Australian national anthem and ‘The World in Union’. After demands for an encore, Kamahl performed a few of his classic hits and recited a favourite poem. Guests were delighted to meet and have photos taken with the singer.

Stroudgate would like to thank all speakers, clients, and those who assisted in the organisation of the event – a resounding success enjoyed by all. Our photogallery has more photos of this event.

Five specialist Australian Cricket Board Qualified Coaches will work on developing the cricket skills of boys and girls from 9 to 21 years of age. This year I have also hired two 28-seat buses which will transport the children to Chhindwara from surrounding tribal areas, making the game of cricket accessible to all.” says Stroudgate CEO Bruce Adams.
